Happy Valentine's Day!

Why is it hard just to say those three words with the ones you should say to? But when it’s time to say it almost too late because the person you need to talk with is too bored of waiting for. With what reason do you have to keep this for that long? You have to say it when you feel you want to. Don’t try to ignore, man! Well now it’s Valentine’s Day which is the day to express the feeling of love and care to the ones you have belonged to like family, the lover(s), friends, and others to be loved.

To me I have rarely expressed those three words verbally to the ones I should say to. Now I’m so regretful that I make them feel not so close to me because of my behavior and shyness to say that. Why can I just open my mouth and say it? Thinking twice on this again, I realize that I have to change and give these bunches of love to them. I need to do something right now.

You know family is like your vein. You do need them all the time to keep you alive and to get more warmth, happiness, love, and great emotion in life. Why do you seem to walk away and not to look back and take care of them? Oh man, you have to realize that the most wonderful and peaceful "smiles" from your family is one of the most priceless things which is hard to find and buy. Would it be nice that you just tell them by those three words and do something happy during the best time of the year? Give more love to them equally and whole-heartedly…….

And I think friends are like the string attached to a kite. It is impossible to live just alone. Accompanying, gathering and guidance with all kinds of smiles are what friends can make. Likewise, the kite needs the string to support its flight and direction. If there is no string attached with, then the kite cannot be flown or if it flies, it will be absolutely blown away by power of the wind and thus this kite doesn’t have any direction to go. It looks like no more fun and consequently this kite must be so fearful whether it falls into the ocean or somewhere unknown that no one can approach. And I guess making more friends might be good. If I was asked to choose 100,000 dollars or get a good friend, I will definitely get a good friend even though I have to face with eating second rice with fried egg all the time.

Born to love unconditionally and to be loved!

About the lover is what your heart’s always asking for. You need to sacrifice time and everything, I guess. I shouldn’t go further on this because I don’t have much experience to tell about this fact. I’m afraid I will confuse somebody who has been playing with this game of love or who is solving with this equation of love. I’d better do some more research in case I misunderstand.

With these, I end my feeling of this day of love with my simple song I just wrote on this valentine's day. This melody is kind of out of beat because I'm not professional but I just made it for expression of my feeling anyway. It's just for fun.....hope you enjoy.

Singapore Film Maker

SINGAPORE: Anthony Chen may be only 24, but he's already pulled off two firsts.

Last year, his short film Ah Ma became the first Singaporean film to compete for the short film Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. This year, his next short film Haze is headed for the Berlin Film Festival on Feb 17 as the first Singaporean short film to be selected to compete in the short film category.

The 15-minute-long Haze follows a teenage couple as they skip school and on a day plagued by the haze from forest fires. The film was selected from 1,500 entries from 64 countries.

Chen, a graduate of Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Film Sound and Video course, said he received the news at 1am on Thursday.

"My team and I are surprised, we're elated," he told TODAY. "But, since the festival is only slightly more than a month away, we're preoccupied with trying to rush out a 35mm print of the film to send to Berlin."

Haze was only completed in the first week of December. Chen had sent a rough cut of the film to the Berlin film festival organisers in October. They saw potential in the film and urged him to send in the complete version when it was ready.

Despite his early success, making a feature film is not yet in the pipeline for the young director — although he has been approached by people in the film industry both here and overseas.

In two weeks' time, he will pack his bags for London to pursue a two-year Masters course in film directing at the National Film and Television School.

"It's not about which festivals your film has gone to, but about being ready. There are still a lot of skills I want to pick up. I want to build on my foundation for making films," said Chen.

Three other Singaporean films are also going international via renowned film festivals. Ho Tzu Nyen's The Bohemian Rhapsody and Boo Jun Feng's Katong Fugue are in competition at the Clermont-Ferrand film festival on Feb 1. The former is competing in the Labo category, and the latter in the main International Competition section.

Meanwhile, Lucky 7 — an independent feature film by seven up-and-coming local directors including Sun Koh, Brian Gothong Tan and Tania Sng — is set to screen at the Rotterdam International Film Festival on Jan 23.

While an Oscar may not yet be forthcoming, local films are certainly off to a good start. - TODAY/fa

Time to exceed your expectations of yourself and be the best you can

Last week, in part one of Style’s horoscope special for the year ahead, Shelley von Strunckel examined how we will have to account for our previous actions in our personal lives. This week, she reveals how the year of reckoning will affect the world around us.

Once, we admired those who overcame the odds to achieve remarkable goals, and valued quality over costly brand names. Then, in the mid1990s, the uncompromising Pluto’s move into the restless, idealistic Sagittarius began a search for perfection. This took place in the midst of an era of bewildering issues – terrorism, the Aids crisis, famines and global warming. Those who’ve stuck to this search have become our heroes. But many have succumbed to Sagittarius’s magpie instincts. We’ve distracted ourselves from these difficult truths by becoming obsessed with meaningless celebrities, aimless travel and expensive acquisitions; and, even worse, by knocking those who actually merit esteem off their pedestals.

With Pluto moving into the precise, practical Capricorn on January 26, for a 16-year stay, the time of reckoning has come. Serious problems in the worlds of economics, business and government reveal dangerously unstable situations – the recent sub-prime mortgage crisis is one example.
